Home > Semen

Semen or ejaculate is the fluid discharged from the penis during ejaculation, usually at the time of orgasm. Like blood, semen consists of two compartments, the cellular compartment ( spermatozoa), and noncellular compartment (seminal plasma). Thus, it contains the sperm, which sometimes results in pregnancy following vaginal sex with a female. Semen is a whitish, milky fluid, slightly viscous, containing water and small amounts of saltFor other meanings of the word salt see salt (disambiguation In chemistry, a salt is a composed of positively charged cations and negatively charged anions, so that the product is neutral and without a net charge. They are typically the product of a chemi, proteinmyoglobin, showing coloured alpha helices. This protein was the first to have its structure solved by X-ray crystallography by Max Perutz and Sir John Cowdery Kendrew in 1958, which led to them receiving a Nobel Prize in Chemistry. A protein is a complex,, and fructoseStructure formula of fructose Fructose or levulose, is the form of sugar found in fruit and honey. It is a laevorotatory monosaccharide with the same empirical formula as glucose but with a different structure. Although fructose is a hexose (6 carbon atom.

1 Composition

Spermatozoa (or 'sperm', for short) are produced in the testes. They make up only about 2–5% of the volume of semen. The bulk of the seminal plasma, the fluid portion of semen, is contributed by the male accessory organs of reproduction . Some 60% of semen is produced by the seminal vesiclesThe seminal vesicles are a pair of glands on the posterior surface of the urinary bladder of males. They secrete a significant proportion of the fluid that ultimately becomes semen. The two seminal vesicles empty into the prostate gland along with the vas, and most of the remainder is generated by the prostateThe prostate is a gland that is part of male mammalian sex organs. Its main function is to secrete and store a clear, slightly acidic fluid that is part of semen. A healthy prostate is approximately the size of a walnut. It surrounds the urethra just belo. Prostatic secretions in humansHuman beings are defined variously in biological, spiritual, and cultural terms, or in combinations thereof. Biologically, they are classified as Homo sapiens ( Latin for knowing man , a primate species of mammal with a highly developed brain. In spiritua contain high levels of citric acidProperties General Name Citric acid Chemical formula C H O Formula weight 192. 13 amu Synonyms 2-hydroxy-1,2,3-propanetricarboxylic acid CAS number 77-92-9 Phase behavior Melting point 426 K (153 °C) Thermal decomposition temperature 448 K (175°C) Acid-ba, acid phosphatase and zinc. A small amount of viscous mucus comes from the bulbourethral glands. Overall, the seminal plasma contains a very complex range of organic and inorganic constituents. These include metal ions, sugars, lipids, steroid hormones, prostaglandins, amino acids and nitrogenous bases.

Fructose is the main energy source of sperm cells. Some of the other components of semen serve to increase the mobility of sperm cells. Sperm function best in a slightly alkaline environment, whereas the vagina is usually slightly acidic. The fluid excreted by the seminal vesicles is alkaline.

A typical ejaculation can contain up to 5 m g of zinc. Men that ejaculate frequently might become deficient in zinc. Zinc deficiency can also cause reproductive problems and problems with spermatogenesis.
