Home > Sebacean

Sebaceans are a fictional alien race from the Farscape universe.

Sebaceans are physically similar to Humans, with the exception of various internal differences (see paraphoral nerve) and a slightly higher sensory prowess with a notable extereme sensitivity to heat. They are the core species of the Peacekeepers -- a militaristic mercenary organization who will enforce the law of the lands they inhabit for a price. They breed their soldiers to be genetically pure, and are raised from birth onboard large battle ships called Command Carriers. They belong to a strict meritocratic hierarchy in which individuals are expected to conform completely to the ideals of Peacekeeper life (usually the belief that all other species are inferior, and that if they were to have prolonged contact with such a species, it could cause irreversable contamination -- which is grounds for immediate exilition from the Peacekeepers. And that the chain of command, and orders, are to be obeyed without question) but are solely rewarded by their individual achievements.

They may suffer heat delerium, a severe, adverse physical reaction suffered by Sebaceans in response to prolonged high heat exposure. If gone untreated, Heat Delirium can rapidly lead to the Living Death — a catatonic vegetablistic state which most Sebaceans consider worse than death.

Spoiler warning: Plot or ending details follow.

In the miniseries, it is implied that the Sebaceans were originally human. They were genetically altered, and had their evolution accelerated by the peaceful Eidelon s. This new race became the Peacekeeper guard for the Eidelon effort toward peace. With the disappearance of the Eidelon s from the galaxy 12,000 cycles before the Farscape setting, they became the familiar Peacekeepers.
