The 1988 movie Scrooged is a film based on the original A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. It was written by Michael O'Donoghue and Mitch Glazer and directed by Richard Donner.

The main character is played by Bill Murray, a programming executive for a major television network. He is set the task of organising a live broadcast of A Christmas Carol but his life soon starts to mirror the story.

It is worth noting that writer O'Donoghue loathed the theatrical release of Scrooged, insisting until his death that he and co-writer Mitch Glazer had written a much more brilliant film, far in sensibility from the popular mainstream film that was produced.

The end theme, "Put a Little Love in your Heart" was written and performed by Al Green with Annie Lennox.
