A screenname is any name chosen for use on the Internet. It is frequently limited in length by the technical restrictions of the applications for which it is used ( e-mail, instant messaging, file sharing etc.). Screennames are often pseudonyms or first names, many times complemented by some number or letter sequence to disambiguate them from identical names on the same system.
