In recent years, Scotland has become famous for its travelling support, known as the Tartan Army, which has won numerous awards from FIFA and UEFA for their combination of rabid support and friendly nature. The Tartan Army and the roligans of Denmark are often considered the best national team fans in Europe, if not the world.
Scotland have managed to qualify for eight World Cups, but have never got past the first round. They have twice missed out on progressing to the second round on goal difference in 1974 when Brazil edged them out and also in 1978 when The Netherlands progressed.
Scotland's most recent national manager, Berti Vogts, managed the side from February 2002 until his resignation November 1, 2004, and was the first non-Scottish manager to manage the national team. Tommy Burns was his assistant.
