Schuylkill County is a county located in the U.S. State of Pennsylvania. As of 2000, the population is 150,336.

1 Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,027 km² (783 mi²). 2,016 km² (778 mi²) of it is land and 11 km² (4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.54% water.

2 Demographics

As of the census ² of 2000, there are 150,336 people, 60,530 households, and 40,131 families residing in the county. The population density is 75/km² (193/mi²). There are 67,806 housing units at an average density of 34/km² (87/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 96.62% White, 2.09% African American, 0.08% Native American, 0.42% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.35% from other racesThe United States Census Bureau uses the federal government's definitions of race when performing a census. There are 60,530 households out of which 26.80% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.40% are married couplesMarriage is a relationship that plays a key role in the definition of many families. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 99.10 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.20 males.
