Home > Saskatchewan general election, 1982

The Twentieth Provincial General Election in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan was held on April 26, 1982.

The Progressive Conservative Party, led by Grant Devine, won over half the popular vote, and a large majority in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan. Devine formed the first Tory government in the province since the 1929 election, defeating the New Democratic Party government of Premier Allan Blakeney, which had governed the province since the 1971 election.

Although the NDP managed to hold its share of the vote, it lost 35 of its 44 seats in the legislature because of the collapse in the vote of the Liberal Party, led by Ralph Goodale. Goodale later found more success in federal politics, rising to become Deputy Prime Minister of Canada in the government of Paul Martin, Jr. in 2003.
