Sanilac County is a county located in the U.S. State of Michigan. As of 2000, the population is 44,547. Its county seat is Sandusky 6.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 4,119 km˛ (1,590 mi˛). 2,496 km˛ (964 mi˛) of it is land and 1,622 km˛ (626 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 39.39% water.
As of the census 2 of 2000, there are 44,547 people, 16,871 households, and 12,163 families residing in the county. The population density is 18/km˛ (46/mi˛). There are 21,314 housing units at an average density of 9/km˛ (22/mi˛). The racial makeup of the county is 96.90% White, 0.28% Black or African American, 0.36% Native American, 0.26% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 1.09% from other races, and 1.11% from two or more races. 2.78% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
