The Sahlgrenska University Hospital or Sahlgrenska Universitetssjukhuset is a university hospital system in Gothenburg, Sweden. The Sahlgrenska Hospital was founded in 1772 following a donation by Niclas Sahlgren. The current hospital system was formed in 1997 by integrating three separate emergency hospital organizations in Gothenburg, and has been operated by the Västra Götaland Regional Council since its formation in 1999. It is also a teaching hospital in medicine for the Gothenburg University.
