SAML is the Security Assertion Markup Language, a standard XML-based framework for the secure exchange of authentication and authorization information, maintained by the OASIS Security Services Technical Committee (SSTC or SAML TC).

The last version approved by the SSTC is version 1.1, with version 2.0 being under development.
