A rope is a length of fibers, twisted or braided together to improve strength, for pulling and connecting. It has tensile strength but is too flexible to provide compressive strength (i.e., it can be used for pulling, not pushing). Common materials for rope include manila, hemp, hair, nylon, and steel. Sometimes woven straps or chains are used where rope could be used, especially in securing loads to vehicles.
Other fibrous plant materials sometimes used include cotton, linen, coconut-husk fiber (coir), jute, and sisal. Other synthetic fibers in use include various forms of polypropylene, polyethylene (e.g. Spectra ® a high modulus polyethylene), aramid (e.g. kevlar ®), and polyester (e.g. dacron ®). Some ropes are constructed of mixtures of several fibers or use co-polymer (mixed) fibers.
Rope has been an essential tool since prehistoric times. Today, steel wire rope has largely supplanted fiber rope in heavy construction and industrial applications because of higher tensile strength. Fiber rope is still used extensively in light industry and in activities as sailing and climbingthe Roaches. Climbing is going up, or, depending on context, also down. It may refer to aircraft, a land vehicle, and humans and animals. On land, in particular it refers to steep climbs, e. on a hill, mountain or stairs, in a pole or tree, etc. This arti.

Some rope material, like hemp, is stronger when wet with water.
A pulleyA pulley is a wheel with a groove along its edge, for holding a rope or cable. Pulleys are usually used in sets designed to reduce the amount of force needed to lift a load. However, the same amount of work is necessary for the load to reach the same heig is used to convert the pulling force to another direction, and multiple pulleys may be used to increase the mechanical advantageIn physics and engineering mechanical advantage (MA is the factor by which a machine multiplies the force put into it. The mechanical advantage can be calculated for the following simple machines by using the following formulas: Lever: MA length of effort, allowing the pulling or lifting of heavy loads with limited force and strength of rope. WinchA winch is a machine that is used to wind up a rope. In its simplest form it consists of a spool and attached crank. More elaborate designs may have gear assemblies or electric drives. Besides industrial applications (e. in cranes), winches are used for tes and capstanA capstan is a rotating machine used to control or apply force to another element, usually linear. The term was first used for the capstan on a ship, which is used to control ropes that are wound around it. The rope is wound around one or more times, buts are machines designed to pull ropes.
