As of 2003, the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Philadelphia covers the City of Philadelphia as well as Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties, Pennsylvania.
The Diocese of Philadelphia, erected on April 8, 1808, was elevated to Archdiocese on February 12, 1875.

- Bishop Saint John Nepomucene NeumannA separate article covers John von Neumann the mathematician and computer scientist. John Neumann ( March 28 1811- January 5 1860) was the first United States citizen to become a saint. Neumann was born in Prachatice, Bohemia and attended school in Budwei, C.SS.R. ( 1852- 1860)
