Suburbs of Sydney

Richmond is a town near Sydney, Australia. It is adjacent to Windsor.

Richmond is one of the oldest places of European settlement in Australia. The area was first settled by British settlers in about 1791. About 1811, five towns were established in the area, including Richmond and Windsor. Richmond was named after the town of the same name in England.

The expansion of the Sydney suburban area has almost reached Richmond and it is now considered to be an outer suburb of Sydney. Richmond is located on the Hawkesbury River and at the foot of the Blue Mountains. The Bells Line of Road which leads into, over and across the Blue Mountains starts in Richmond. Richmond is located about 70 kilometers north-west of downtown Sydney and is at the end of the Richmond line of the CityRail network.

RAAF Base Richmond ia a Royal Australian Air Force base at Richmond.
