Richard Roeper (born August 1, 1960) is a columnist for the Chicago Sun-Times and, since September 1999, has co-hosted Ebert & Roeper with film critic Roger Ebert.

Roeper was born in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from Illinois State University in 1982 and began working as a columnist for the Chicago Sun-Times in 1987. The topics of his columns range from politics to media to entertainment, and he has written several books on film criticismFilm criticism is the analysis and evaluation of films. In general this can be divided into academic criticism by film scholars and journalistic film criticism that appears regularly in newspapers and other media. After Gene SiskelEugene "Gene" Kal Siskel ( January 26, 1946 February 21, 1999) was, along with partner Roger Ebert, one of the two most famous film critics in the world. Siskel graduated from Yale University in 1967 and began working for the Chicago Tribune in 1969., of Siskel & Ebert, passed away in 1999, Roeper was offered the opportunity to co-host the popular film review show with fellow Chicago Sun-Times columnist Roger Ebert. The show benefitted from Ebert and Roeper's chemistry and often heated debates after several months of rotating co-hosts. The show was shortly thereafter renamed Ebert & Roeper.
