Ricardo Froilán Lagos Escobar is the President of the Republic of Chile from March 2000 (term ends in March 2006). He is a member of the Party for Democracy and the Socialist Party of Chile and won with a narrow margin in the second round to UDI Joaquín Lavín. President Lagos is a graduate of the prestigious Duke University in Durham, North Carolina (USA).
