The Red Sea ( Arabic البحر الأحمر Baḥr al-Aḥmar, al-Baḥru l-’Aḥmar; Hebrew ים סוף Yam Suf; Latin Mare Erythræum) is a gulf or basin of the Indian Ocean between Africa and Asia. The connection to the ocean is in the south through the Bab el Mandeb sound and the Gulf of Aden. In the north is the Sinai Peninsula, the Gulf of Aqaba and the Gulf of Suez (leading to the Suez Canal). The sea is roughly 1900 km long and at its widest is over 300 km. The sea floor has a maximum depth of 2,500 m in the central median trench and an average depth of 500 m, but it also has extensive shallow shelves, noted for their marine life and coralCorals are gastrovascular marine cnidarians (phylum Cnidaria; class Anthozoa) existing as small anemone-like polyps, typically forming colonies of many individuals. The group includes the important reef builders known as hermatypic corals, found in tropics. The sea has a surface area of roughly 438,000 or 450,000 km². The sea is the habitat of over 1000 invertebrateInvertebrate is a term coined by Chevalier de Lamarck to describe any animal without a backbone or vertebra, like insects, squids and worms. He divided them into two groups, the Insecta and the Vermes. However, the invertebrates are not a coherent group o species and 200 soft and hard corals. The sea occupies a part of the Great Rift ValleySinai Peninsula is in center and the Dead Sea and Jordan River valley above The Great Rift Valley is a vast geographical and geological feature of east Africa and southwest Asia created by the rifting and separation of the African and Arabian tectonic pla.
The name of the sea does not indicate a real redRed is a color at the lowest frequencies of light discernible by the human eye. Red light has a wavelength of roughly 700 nm. Oxygenated blood is red due to the presence of hemoglobin. Red light is the first to be absorbed by sea water, so that many fish colour, as the seawater is actually blue when viewed afar, and transparent when held in hand. It may signify the seasonal blooms of the red-coloured cyanobacteriaCyanobacteria are a phylum of aquatic bacteria that obtain their energy through photosynthesis. They are often referred to as blue-green algae even though it is now known that they are not related to any of the other algal groups, which are all eukaryotes Trichodesmiumcontortum T. erythraeum T. hildebrandtii T. tenue T. thiebautii Trichodesmium is a genus of filamentous cyanobacteria. They are found in nutrient poor tropical and subtropical ocean waters (particularly around Australia, where they were first described by erythraeum near the water surface. The term "mineral" encompasses not only the material's chemical composition but also the mineral structures. Minerals range in composition from pure elements and simple salts to very comp-rich red mountainThis article is about the landform. For other meanings, see Mountain (disambiguation). Mount Cook, a mountain in New Zealand A mountain is a landform that extends above the surrounding terrain in a limited area. A mountain is generally much higher and stes nearby, which are indeed called "הרי אדום" ("Mounts of the Edomites" or "the Rubi mountains") in Hebrew language.
