Ranger 4 was a spacecraft of the Ranger program designed to transmit pictures of the lunar surface to EarthEarth also known as the Earth or Terra is the planet on which we live, the third planet outward from the Sun. It is the largest of the solar system's terrestrial planets, and the only planetary body that modern science confirms as harbouring life. The pla stations during a period of 10 minutes of flight prior to impacting on the Moon, to rough-land a seismometerA seismometer is an instrument for measuring earthquakes and other ground motions. seismometer that measures acceleration. This model is a K2 made by Kinemetrics and part of the Pacific Northwest Seismograph Network. The principle can be shown by imaginin capsule on the Moon, to collect gamma-ray data in flight, to study radar reflectivity of the lunar surface, and to continue testing of the Ranger program for development of lunar and interplanetary spacecraft. An onboard computer failure caused failure of the deployment of the solar panelSolar panels are devices consisting of solar cells that convert light into electricity. They are called solar after the sun or "Sol" because the sun is the most powerful source of the light available for use. The solar cells are sometimes called photovolts and navigation systems, the spacecraft impacted on the far sideThis article concerns the far side of the Moon. For other uses of the expression see Far side (disambiguation). The Far side of the Moon is the lunar hemisphere that is permanently turned away from the Earth. This face is not visible because the rotation of the Moon without returning any scientific data.
