Home > Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Canada

Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Canada is a department in the Government of Canada created by Prime Minister Paul Martin upon being sworn-in on December 12, 2003.

PSEPC was created largely from the department of the Solicitor General of Canada with the addition of the customs service (from the Department of National Revenue ) and the Office of Critical Infrastructure Protection and Emergency Preparedness (from the Department of National Defence). The department is in many ways similar to the U. S. Department of Homeland Security though it does not cover immigration and does cover natural disasters.

The first Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness minister is Anne McLellan, who also serves as Deputy Prime Minister.
