Early Boeing 707s and Douglas DC-8s were powered by the JT3C. Later on, the JT3C was modified into the Pratt & Whitney JT3D turbofan engine. The JT3C engine was also used extensively in military aircraft under the designation J57. The Boeing B-52 heavy bomber was powered by eight J57 engines. Several American fighter aircraft such as the North American F-100 Super Sabre, the McDonnell F-101 and the Convair F-102 Delta Dagger were also powered by afterburning J57 variants.
