The first Portuguese Grand Prix was in Oporto on 14 August 1958, followed in 1959 by a grand prix in Monsanto, Lisbon. The last Portuguese Grand Prix was in Estoril on 22 September 1996. Estoril was planned to be the European Grand Prix in 1997 but improvements to the circuit were not finished in time.
