In information processing, output is the process of transmitting information (verb usage).

Output may also be used as a noun for information transmitted by an object.

2 Telecommunications

In telecommunication, the term output has the following meanings:

1. Information retrieved from a functional unit or from a network, usually after some processing.

2. An output state, or sequence of states.

3. Pertaining to a device, process, or channel involved in the production of data by a computer or by any of its components.

3 Control theory

In control theory, the outputs of a system are what can be measured. Specifically, outputs are differentiated from statesIn control theory, states are what characterize a system. With linear systems states are not unique, but can be transformed into equivalent states using certain linear transformations. States are differentiated from the inputs and outputs of the system.
