Otelu Rosu is a town in southwestern Romania (Caras-Severin county) on the Bistra river. It is situated on the D.N. 68 (national road), connecting Caransebes, which is 15 km away, to Hateg .
The Ferdinand name did not please the communist and they changed it to Otelu Rosu (red steel) in order to underline its metallurgic enterprise.
The population was 12,989 ( 2000) and 13.128 ( 1999).
The town has 3 schools and 1 high school (Grup Scolar Industrial).
