Home > Oromocto, New Brunswick

Oromocto is a town in west-central New Brunswick, Canada; approximately 20 kilometres southeast of Fredericton on the Saint John River. In 2001 the population was 8,843. The town is best known as the headquarters of Canadian Forces Base Gagetown , the largest military reservation in the British Commonwealth. It is also known as "Canada's Model Town".

Oromocto was originally a shipbuilding town in the 19th century, but after that trade died out the town started to decline. It was simply a small hamlet until Base Gagetown opened in 1955.
