Within the Town of Orchard Park is a village also called Orchard Park. Orchard Park is one of the "Southtowns" of Erie County.
The town was originally a settlement of Quakers.
The town was separated from the Town of Hamburg in 1850 and was first named the Town of Ellicott, after Joseph Ellicott. Within months, the name was changed to the Town of East Hamburgh. Around 1934, the town was renamed Orchard Park, after its principal settlement.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 99.9 km² (38.6 mi²). 99.7 km² (38.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.18% water.
Route 219 passes through the west part of the town.As of the census 2 of 2000, there are 27,637 people, 10,277 households, and 7,656 families residing in the town.
