Northeastern Ontario is the region within the Canadian province of Ontario which lies north and east of the Great Lakes.

Northeastern Ontario consists of Algoma District, Sudbury District, Cochrane District, Timiskaming District, Nipissing District, Manitoulin District and the single-tier municipality of Greater Sudbury.

For some purposes, Parry Sound District and Muskoka District Municipality are treated as part of Northeastern Ontario even though they are geographically in Central Ontario. These two districts are coloured in green on the map.

Cities and Towns

Northeastern Ontario has six cities. They are Greater Sudbury, Sault Ste. Marie, North Bay, TimminsTimmins with a population of 43,686 ( 2001), is a city in northeastern Ontario, Canada on the Mattagami River. 52 square kilometres, Timmins was Canada's largest city in land area until 2001, when the city of Greater Sudbury, Ontario was created. The city, Elliot LakeElliot Lake ( 2001 population 11,956) is a city in Northern Ontario, Canada. It is located midway between the cities of Sudbury and Sault Ste Marie near the shore of Lake Huron. The town was first established as a uranium mining town in 1958. The uranium and Temiskaming ShoresTemiskaming Shores, Ontario is a city in the Canadian province of Ontario. It was created by the amalgamation of the communities of New Liskeard, Ontario, Haileybury, Ontario and the Township of Dymond, Ontario. It is located near the Quebec border on the.

Smaller communities in the region include EspanolaEspanola ( 2001 census population 5,449) is a town in Northern Ontario, Canada. It is situated on the Spanish River, in the Sudbury District, approximately 70 kilometres west of the city of Sudbury. It is the largest community located directly along Highway 11 between Thunder Bay and Temiskaming Shores. The town was founded in, Kirkland Lake, French River, St. Charles, Markstay-Warren and West Nipissing.
