The District of North Vancouver is a District Municipality in British Columbia. It is a suburb of Vancouver and is part of the GVRD.
The District of North Vancouver is separted from Vancouver by the Burrard Inlet. It can be accessed by either the Lion's Gate Bridge or the Second Narrows Bridge.
The District is a spread out in a east west direction. There are a number of separate neighbourhood centres. There is no true urban core within the District. The commercial neighbourhood centres are (from West to East) Edgemont Village, Lynn Valley, Deep Cove. Most of the residents of the District live in single family dwellings. Except for a few more historical areas, much of the development of the District has occurred since the 1950s. The City of North Vancouver is considerably higher density both commercially and residentially.
The District shares a lot of commonality with the the City of North Vancouver and West Vancouver. Together these three municipalities are commonly referred to as the North Shore.
The main highway through the District of North Vancouver is Highway 1. This crosses over the Second Narrows Bridge and goes through the District to the border with West Vancouver.
