Newcastle upon Tyne, often called just Newcastle, is a city in North East England in the metropolitan countyThe metropolitan counties of England are administative counties that cover large urban areas, each with several metropolitan districts. The counties no longer have county councils, as they were abolished in 1986 with most of their functions being devolved of Tyne and Wear.
