  3. Douglas County one of the original 9 counties formed in 1861.
  4. Elko County formed in 1869 from part of Lander county.
  5. Esmeralda County one of the original 9 counties formed in 1861.
  6. Eureka County formed in 1873 from part of Lander county.
  7. Humboldt County one of the original 9 counties formed in 1861.
  8. Lander County formed in 1862 from parts of Churchill and Humboldt counties.
  9. Lincoln County formed in 1866 from parts of Nye county and territory ceded by Arizona.
  10. Lyon County one of the original 9 counties formed in 1861.
  11. Mineral County created in 1911 from part of Esmeralda county.
  12. Nye County formed in 1864 from part of Esmeralda county.
  13. Pershing CountyPershing County is a county located in the U. State of Nevada. As of 2000, the population is 6,693. Its county seat is Lovelock 6. Geography According to the U. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 15,715 km˛ (6,068 mi˛). 15,635 km˛ (6,037 mi˛) o formed in 1919 from part of Humboldt county.
  14. Storey CountyStorey County is a county located in the U. State of Nevada. As of 2000, the population is 3,399. Its county seat is Virginia City 6. Geography According to the U. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 683 km˛ (264 mi˛). 682 km˛ (263 mi˛) of it is one of the original 9 counties formed in 1861.
  15. Washoe CountyWashoe County is a county located in the U. State of Nevada. As of 2000, the population is 339,486. Its county seat is Reno 6. Geography According to the U. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 16,968 km˛ (6,551 mi˛). 16,426 km˛ (6,342 mi˛) of it one of the original 9 counties formed in 1861.
  16. White Pine CountyWhite Pine County is a county located in the U. State of Nevada. As of 2000, the population is 9,181. Its county seat is Ely 6. Geography According to the U. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 23,042 km˛ (8,897 mi˛). 22,989 km˛ (8,876 mi˛) of i formed in 1869 from part of Lander county.

Defunct counties:

Bullfrog County, NevadaBullfrog County was a short-lived county in the state of Nevada, created by the Nevada legislature in 1987 in an attempt to garner more state revenue from the potential creation of the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository. It was re-absorbed into Nye C formed in 1987 from part of Nye county. Abolished in 1989.
Lake County, Nevada one of the original 9 counties formed in 1861. Renamed Roop county in 1862. Annexed in 1883 to Washoe county.
Ormsby County, NevadaOrmsby County was a county of Nevada from 1861 until 1969. It contained Carson City, the county seat and later state capital, founded two years earlier. It was named after Major William M. Ormsby, one of the original settlers of Carson City, killed in 186 one of the original 9 counties formed in 1861.
