Neem Karoli Baba was Hindu guru and a Hanuman devotee. He taught in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. He died in 1973. He is best known in the west for being guru to a number of young westerners who were drawn to Indian spirituality in the 1960s and 70s. These disciples include the author Ram Dass and the musician Krishna Das , and many others known informally as the Das'es. He practiced a style of bhakti yoga involving ecstatic chanting and preached service to others and unconditional devotion to God.
