The muscat family of grapes grow widely for wine, raisins and table grapes. They range in color from white to almost black. Muscat grapes grow around the world in Italy, France, Greece, Spain, Australia, California and Hungary. One variety of muscat is one of only three grapes allowed for making sherry. - Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains (also called Muscat Blanc, Muscat Canelli, Muscat Frontignan, Moscato Bianco, Muscat de Frontignan, Muscat d'Alsace, Muskateller, Muscatel de Grano Menudo, Moscatel Rosé and Sárgamuskotály). This grape is used for the wines: asti spumante , clairette de die, and muscat de beaumes-de-venise. It is also used for some TokajiTokaji meaning "of Tokaj" in Hungarian, is used to label wines from the wine region of Tokaj-Hegyalja in Hungary. A small quantity of wines from the Slovak wine region of Tokaj also use the Tokaj label, and are referred to as Tokajsky meaning "of Tokaj" i wines.
- Moscato Giallo (or Goldmuskateller) and Moscato Rosa (or Rosenmuskateller) are thought to be closely related colored versions of Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains.
- Muscat of Alexandria (also called Moscatel, Moscatel Romano, Moscatel de Málaga, Gordo Blanco, Hanepoot, Lexia, Moscatel Gordo, and Zibibbo) This grape is used for sherry, moscatel or muscatel wines, Muscatel de Valencia, Muscatel Passito and other Muscatel liqueurA liqueur is a sweet alcoholic beverage, often flavored with fruits, herbs, or spices, and sometimes cream. Historically, they derive from herbal medicines, often those prepared by monks, as Benedictine. Liqueurs were made in Italy as early as the 13th ces and also as a raisin and table grape.
