Mission is a city located in Hidalgo County, Texas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 45,408.

1 Geography

Mission is located at 26°12'41" North, 98°19'17" West (26.211402, -98.321277) 1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 62.5 km˛ (24.1 mi˛). 62.5 km˛ (24.1 mi˛) of it is land and 0.04% is water.

2 Demographics

As of the census 2 of 2000, there are 45,408 people, 13,766 households, and 11,384 families residing in the city. The population density is 726.6/km˛ (1,881.9/mi˛). There are 17,723 housing units at an average density of 283.6/km˛ (734.5/mi˛). The racial makeup of the city is 77.63% White, 0.37% African American, 0.38% Native American, 0.63% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 18.64% from other races, and 2.34% from two or more races. 81.03% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 13,766 households out of which 43.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.8% are married couplesMarriage is a relationship that plays a key role in the definition of many families.
