Dame Miriam Louisa Rothschild DBE, FRS (born August 5, 1908) is a British zoologist, entomologist and author.

1 Family

She is the daughter of Charles Rothschild of the famous European Rothschild family.

2 Scholarship and author

Rothschild is a leading authority on fleas. She was the first person to work out the flea jumping mechanism. She also studied the flea's reproductive cycle and linked this, in rabbits, to the hormonal changes within the host. She has written about 350 papers on entomology, zoology and other subjects.

Rothschild was also involved with butterfly conservation in the UK.

Rothschild is also the author of books on her father (Rothschild's Reserves - time and fragile nature) and her uncle Walter Rothschild, 2nd Baron Rothschild (Dear Lord Rothschild).

Rothshild was also one of the few women whom E.B. Ford got on with.
