The federal electoral district of Miramichi is located in northeastern New Brunswick, Canada. In 2001 its population was 63,001. It is named for the river and city of the same name.The riding currently contains all of Northumberland County, plus the Belledune area, several bedroom communities for Bathurst, and the area around Kouchibouguac National Park. The riding is mostly anglophone with a significant francophone minority.
History
The riding is related from the former riding of Northumberland, which existed since 1867. In 1955 it changed its name to Northumberland-Miramichi, and in 1987 became simply Miramichi. Until 1966 it consisted solely of Northumberland County, but due to declining populations it added part of northern Kent County, near present day Kouchibouguac National Park. Between 1987 and 1996 it also included a small part of York CountyYork County ( 2001 population 87,212) is located in west-central New Brunswick, Canada. The county contains the provincial capital, Fredericton. Outside the city, farming and forestry are two major industries in the county, which is bisected by the Saint, and in 20032003 is a common year starting on Wednesday (link will take you to calendar), and also: The International Year of Freshwater The European Disability Year Summary Perhaps the defining global event of the year 2003 was the Invasion of Iraq launched by the U it added a large area to the north, including Allardville and Belledune.
Miramichi has tended to vote Liberal in federal elections, with a few exceptions.
