Home > Mechanical efficiency

In physics, mechanical efficiency is the effectiveness of a simple machine.

The formula for finding efficiency is,

Efficiency = AMA ÷ IMA

where AMA equals actual mechanical advantage and IMA equals ideal mechanical advantage.

Efficiency is measured as a percentage. The efficiency of an ideal machine is 100%. Therefore, all real machine efficiencies are less than 100%.
