She married Paul Mowatt, a photographer, on 2 February 1990. It was a source of great controversy within the royal family, as Marina was five months pregnant with her first child at the time. The marriage was not a happy one, and ended in divorce seven years later on 15 October 1997. It is alleged that Paul was physically abusive towards his wife.

Marina is the mother of Zenouska Mowatt and Christian Mowatt. She is 35th in the Line of Succession to the British Throne.
