Home > Maelor Saesneg

Maelor Saesneg ( Welsh, "English Maelor"), sometimes called "Flintshire Detached", is an area of Wales along the eastern border which has traditionally formed an exclave of Flintshire. Its administrative centre was in Overton . Since 1974 the traditional arrangement has not been reflected in the structure of local government (see the article on Counties of Wales); the area is now administered by the borough of Wrexham.

To the west, across the River Dee, lies another area known as Maelor Gymraeg, meaning " Welsh Maelor ". This area was formerly in Denbighshire.

The names and separate governance of the two parts of Maelor goes back to at least 1202.
