• November 22: Ipswich-- Chris Mole (Lab), to replace Jamie Cann, who died on October 15

24.2 2002

• February 14: Ogmore-- Huw Irranca-Davies (Lab), to replace Sir Raymond Powell who died on December 7, 2001

24.3 2003

• September 13: Brent East-- Sarah Teather (Lib Dem), to replace Paul Daisley who died on June 18.

24.4 2004

• July 15: Leicester South-- Parmjit Singh Gill (Lib Dem), to replace Jim Marshall, who died on May 27.

• July 15: Birmingham Hodge Hill-- Liam Byrne (Labour), to replace Terry Davis who had accepted the Stewardship of the Chiltern Hundreds on June 22, having been elected secretary general of the Council of Europe.

• September 30: Hartlepool-- Iain Wright (Labour), to replace Peter Mandelson, who had accepted the Stewardship of the Manor of Northstead on September 8, having been nominated as Britain's new European Commissioner.

25.1 2001

• Paul Marsden ( Shrewsbury and Atcham) - Defected to the Liberal Democrats from Labour on December 10

25.2 2002

• Andrew Hunter ( Basingstoke) - resigned the Conservative whip on October 2

25.3 2003

• Martin Smyth ( South Belfast), David Burnside ( South Antrim), and Jeffrey Donaldson ( Lagan Valley) - Resigned the Ulster Unionist whip on June 23
• George Galloway ( Glasgow Kelvin) - Expelled from Labour October 23

25.4 2004

• Jeffrey Donaldson ( Lagan Valley) - defected to the Democratic Unionist Party on January 5
• Martin Smyth ( South Belfast) and David Burnside ( South Antrim) - Retook the Ulster Unionist Whip on January 9
• Ann Winterton ( Congleton) - Conservative whip was withdrawn on February 25 and restored on March 31.
