Aster is a surface-to-air missile manufactured by the European firm MBDA. The missile comes in two variants, the medium range Aster 15 and the longer range Aster 30. The Aster missile, together with the SYLVER launcher, is the main component of PAAMS ( Principle Anti-Air Missile System), a French/ Italian/ British joint program for a naval anti-aircraft weapon.1 History
Aster has been under development since 1990.

British Type 45 destroyers will be armed with PAAMS, using the Aster 30 and possibly also the Aster 15.
