Lund [lɵnd] is a municipality and city in Scania in southernmost Sweden. The town is, according to recent archaeological diggings, claimed to be founded in year 990 A.D. by the Danish king Sweyn I Forkbeard, and hence celebrated its 1,000 year anniversary in 1990.

The city was made see of the first archbishop in Scandinavia in 1103, the Lund Cathedral dates from this time (inaugurated 1 Sept 1145). It was thereafter the see of the Catholic archbishop until the Reformation in 1536. Lund UniversityLund University or Lunds universitet is a university founded in 1666, in Lund, Sweden. The university has over 34,000 people studying in 50 different programmes and 800 separate courses. The school is also one of the best schools in Sweden, and many wellknown people have attended it, among those actor Max von SydowMax von Sydow (born April 10, 1929 in Lund, Sweden) is a Swedish theatrical, television and film actor. It was through his association with director Ingmar Bergman, with whom he made about a dozen films, that von Sydow earned his international reputation, and several high ranking politicians.

Lund is also home to the Tetra Pak company that markets paper packaging machinery for milk and orange juice all over the world. Sony Ericsson develops cell phone handsets in Lund. Other important industries include pharmaceuticals, electronics, and publishing and library services.

The national park Dalby Söderskog is situated within the municipality.

The city's population is 73,840 ( as of 2000).
