Lunch box and vacuum bottle owned by Harry S. Truman

A Lunchbox, sometimes called a lunchpail, is a container for carrying food, usually for lunch during work or school. Many lunchboxes, especially those for children, feature bright colors and designs such as popular cartoons. The contents of a lunchbox often consistes of sandwiches. Lunch box manufacturers never used the term "lunchbox", rather "lunch kit".

The original luchpail was an actual pail or bucket. Later special buckets were manufactured specifically for food.
