Home > Lørenskog

The municipality Lørenskog in the county of Akershus, Norway,

has 30,496 inhabitants as of January 1, 2004. It is located just east of the capital, Oslo, with many main roads going trough. The name Lørenskog is derived from the word løren, leiren, meaning the mud and skog, meaning forest. Thus, Lørenskog is a muddy forest (this isn't entirely true, of course).

Åge Tovan, with the Norwegian Labour Party (Det Norske Arbeiderparti, DNA), is currently the Mayor. Martin Bjerke, with the Socialist Left Party (Sosialistisk Venstreparti, SV) is the second-ranking person below the Mayor.

This is Lørenskog's municipal badge. It represents a waterwheel in Losby, which is a very beautiful part of Lørenskog. Some of Losby is today a Golf course, along with lakes and farms.
