The main aims of the League were to: end evictions, excessive rent and landlord oppression. Men like Charles Stewart Parnell and Michael Davitt went to America to raise funds for the League with spectacular results. The League was setup just before the Land War of 1880-1882 in which there was wide scale uprising using three main methods: 1): Rent at the point of a bayonet - this was where tenants refused to pay rent until they literally had a bayonet pointed at them. 2): Holding the Haverest - this was when tenents would only give the landlord as much or little as they could afford. 3): Boycotting - This word came to be because of a Captain Charles Boycott who evicted tenents. Then the local community would shun him and avoid talking to him or the tenent that took up the evicted tenants' lands.
