While the town of Smiths FallsSmiths Falls ( 2001 population 9,977) is a town on the Rideau Canal in Ontario, Canada. It is in the census division for Lanark County, but is no longer associated with that county. The town was founded in 1823 on land owned by United Empire Loyalist Thom is physically within the boundaries of the county, it is a separated municipality and is not under the administration of the county government.
