Although Ladin in Italian is referred as "ladino", this language should not be confused with an other Romance language of Ladino, another name for Judaeo-Spanish
Ladin (Ladino in Italian, Ladin in Ladin) is a Rhaetian language spoken in the Dolomite mountains in Italy, between the regions of Trentino-Alto Adige and Veneto.
It presents connections with the Swiss Romansh and Friulian.
It is spoken in:
- the province of Bolzano at
- Ortisei (Ladin Urtijëi, German St.Ulrich),
- Selva di Val Gardena (Ladin Sëlva, German Wolkenstein),
- Badia (Ladin Badia, German Abteital),
- Corvara in Badia (Ladin Curvara, German Kurfahr), and
- Marebbe (Ladin Maréo, German Enneberg);
- the province of Trento at
- Canazei (Ladin Cianacei),
- Vigo di Fassa (Ladin Vich), and
- Pozza di Fassa (Ladin Pocia).
- the province of Belluno in
- Livinallongo valley (Ladin Fodom, German Buchenstein) and at
- Cortina d'Ampezzo (Ladin Anpëz)
It is officially recognized in Italy and has some official rights in the region of Trentino-Alto Adige, while it does not have official status in the province of Belluno ( Veneto region).
