Nikita (re-titled La Femme Nikita in some markets) is a Canadian television series loosely based on the movie Nikita (re-titled La Femme Nikita in some markets). It has run for five seasons from 1996 to 2001 and and was created by Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran , who together went on to create 24. The series was cancelled after its first few seasons, but a letter-writing campaign by fans of the show resulted in it being renewed for an abbreviated final season. The first season of the series was released to DVD in 2003.
The main character of the series is Nikita ( Peta Wilson). She was in prison because she was wrongly convicted of murder. She was then taken from prison by the highly trained, highly secret counter- terrorism unit "Section One", who give Nikita the choice of either working for them and becoming a trained assassin, or refuse and be "cancelled" (i.e. killed). She decides to work for them. The official story is that she commited suicide in prison. She is trained by Michael Samuelle ( Roy DupuisRoy Dupuis is a Canadian actor who was born on april 21, 1963 in Amos in the Abitib region of Quebec, Canada. In 2001 a computer game based on Nikita was announced for the Xbox system, but was later cancelled.
