This is a list of kings of Gondor from the fictional universe of Middle-earth by J. R. R. Tolkien.

The Kings of Gondor through Amandil claimed descent from the Lords of Andúnië, and from there to Silmariën and the Kings of Númenor.

Spoiler warning: Plot or ending details follow.

  1. Elendil, son of Amandil. He reigned titularly as High King from 3320–3441 S.A. His sons Isildur and Anárion were the co-rulers of Gondor itself (until Anárion's death in T.A. 3440.)
  2. Isildur officially ruled Gondor from S.A. 3441–2 T.A.
  3. Meneldil fourth child and son of Anárion reigned T.A. 2–158
  4. Cemendur r. 158–238
  5. EärendilTolkien's fictional universe of Middle-earth, Earendil was the fifth King of Gondor and son of Cemendur, he should not be confused with Earendil, the father of Elrond and Elros Tar-Minyatur. During his reign there were no significant events, which suggest r. 238–324
  6. AnardilTolkien's universe of Middle-earth, Anardil was the sixth King of Gondor. He ascended the throne after the death of his father Earendil in 324 T. No notable events were recorded for his reign. Anardil died in 411 T. and was succeeded by his son Ostoher. r. 324–411
  7. OstoherOstoher is a fictional character in J. Tolkien's universe of Middle-earth. He was the son and successor of King Anardil of Gondor and he became the seventh King upon Anardil's death in 411 T. He made Minas Anor his summer residence and under his reign the r. 411–491
  8. Rómendacil ITolkien's fictional universe of Middle-earth Romendacil I was the eighth King of Gondor Romendacil was born as Tarostar. He was the son of King Ostoher and as crown-prince he rode against the Easterlings and defeated them. After the victory he renamed him (Tarostar) r. 491–541
  9. TurambarTolkien's fictional universe of Middle-earth, Turambar was a name of Turin, a tragic hero from the First Age. It means "master of fate" in the Sindarin language and was chosen by Turin in defiance of the curse placed upon his family by Morgoth. Turambar w r. 541–667
  10. Atanatar IAtanatar I is a fictional character in J. Tolkien's universe of Middle-earth and the tenth King of Gondor. He was the son of Turambar and succeeded him to the throne of Gondor in T. His reign was uneventful, he died in 748 and was succeeded by his son Sir r. 667–748
  11. SiriondilSiriondil is a fictional character in J. Tolkien's universe of Middle-earth and the eleventh King of Gondor. He became King of Gondor in T. 748 after the death of his father Atanatar I. His reign was without notable events and probably peaceful. He was su r. 748–840
  12. Tarannon Falastur r. 840–913. First of the Ship-Kings, died childless
  13. Eärnil I r. 913–936. Nephew of Tarannon
  14. Ciryandil r. 936–1015
  15. Hyarmendacil I (Ciryaher) r. 1015–1149. Last of the Ship-Kings
  16. Atanatar II Alcarin r. 1149–1226
  17. Narmacil I r. 1226–1294. Second childless King
  18. Calmacil r. 1294–1304. Younger brother of Narmacil
  19. Minalcar was crowned as Rómendacil II in 1304, reigned 1304–1366
  20. Valacar r. 1366–1432
  21. Vinitharya, crowned as Eldacar reigned 1432–1437
  22. Castamir usurped the throne during the Kin-strife in 1437, killed in 1447
  23. Eldacar restored, r. 1437–1490
  24. Aldamir r. 1490–1540
  25. Hyarmendacil II (Vinyarion) r. 1540–1621
  26. Minardil r. 1621–1634
  27. Telemnar r. 1634–1636. Died in the Great Plague with all his children.
  28. Tarondor r. 1636–1798. Nephew of Telemnar
  29. Telumehtar Umbardacil r. 1798–1850
  30. Narmacil II r. 1850–1856
  31. Calimehtar r. 1856–1936
  32. Ondoher r. 1936–1944. Died in battle with his two sons
  33. Eärnil II r. 1945–2043. Was given the crown after a year of rule by the Steward Pelendur. A descendant of Telumehtar Umbardacil
  34. Eärnur r. 2043–2050 (probably). Last King of Gondor
  35. Elessar r. Fourth Age (F.A) 1-120, was the first king of the Reunited Kingdom
  36. Eldarion r. F.A. 120-?

Elendil and Isildur were Kings of Arnor as well as Gondor, but after Isildur the realm was split. Isildur's heirs ruled Arnor, and Anárion's heirs ruled Gondor.

Eärnur was taken in Minas Morgul and never seen again, and the Kingdom of Gondor was ruled by a succession of Stewards until the restoration of the line of Kings with Elessar ( Aragorn), the first king of the Reunited Kingdom of Gondor and Arnor.
