Kii (紀伊国; -no kuni) was an old province of Japan in the area that is today a part of Mie and Wakayama prefectures. Kii bordered on Ise, Izumi, Kawachi, Shima, and Yamato provinces. The Kii Peninsula takes its name from the province. During the Edo period, the Kii branch of the Tokugawa clan had its castle at Wakayama.
