The Kabars (Gr. Kabaroi) were a confederation of three Khazar tribes that rebelled against the authority of the Khazar khagan in the 9th century. The word itself is believed to derive from a Turkic word meaning "rebel."

The Kabars joined the proto- Magyar migration from the steppes of the Ukraine to the Danubian Steppes of modern Hungary, assisting the Magyars in overthrowing the Avar Empire. The Kabars eventually assimilated into the general Magyar population, leaving scattered remains and some cultural and linuistic imprints.
