Joutseno is a municipality of Finland. It is located in the province of Southern Finland and is part of the South Karelia region. The municipality has a population of 10 821 ( 2003) and covers an area of 498,8 kmē of which 187,7 kmē is water. The population density is 34,8 inhabitants per kmē. The municipality is unilingually Finnish.Joutseno is located close to beautiful lake Saimaa, surrounded by idyllic Karelian woods. It is a small town with connections to outer world through the national mainroad number six and the Karelian railroad . Lappeenranta and Imatra, the biggest nearby cities, are both about 20 km away. Local industries include a big pulp mill and a bakery.
