Dryander was born in Gothenburg. He was a pupil of Carolus Linnaeus at Uppsala University. He arrived in London on 10 July 1777. He was botanist/librarian to Sir Joseph Banks from 1782 (following the death of Daniel Solander), librarian of the Royal Society and Vice-President of the Linnean Society.
Dryander's publications included Catalogus bibliothecae historico-naturalis Joseph Banksi (1796-1800).
